Southern Maine Sweeps UMass Dartmouth and Maine Maritime
Huskies Travel to Husson on Wednesday

            GORHAM, Maine -- Junior Megan Gettings (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Eastern) knocked down 18 kills over two matches to help the University of Southern Maine volleyball team sweep the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Maine Maritime Academy Saturday afternoon at the Warren Hill Gymnasium.

            The Huskies (6-4, 1-0) defeated UMass Dartmouth (5-2, 0-1) in the opening match of the afternoon 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-15), then returned to down Maine Maritime 3-0 (25-23, 30-28, 25-19) in the final match of the day.  In the middle match, Maine Maritime (6-5) defeat UMass Dartmouth in four sets, 3-1 (24-26, 25-17, 25-13, 25-17).

            Gettings racked up 11 kills without an error and six digs against UMD, and added seven more kills against Maine Maritime as part of a balanced attack.  Sophomore Kacey Foerster (Scarborough, Maine) had 14 kills over the two matches, and junior Kylee Austin (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) and sophomore Jamie Jannarone (Windham, Maine) contributed 11 kills apiece.

            Senior Nicole Schmitz (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham) pass out 24 assists against UMD, and another 21 against MMA.  Austin also had six blocks, including five solo blocks, against UMD.  Sophomores Lauren Delissio (Hebron, Conn./RHAM) and Rachel Chillé (Yarmouth, Maine) had strong days on the back line with 17 and 19 digs respectively.

            Seniors Amanda LaCroix (East Freetown, Mass.) and Kristy Walton (Fairhaven, Mass.) led UMass Dartmouth with nine kills apiece against Southern Maine.  Junior Nicole Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) chipped in with seven kills.  Junior Jordan Rittberger (Huntington, N.Y.) and sophomore Riley Thomas (Fairhaven, Mass,) combined for 28 assists.  Silverman lead all players with 12 digs.

            For Maine Maritime, junior Avery O'Neal (Burbank, Calif.) and sophomore Jessica D'Auria (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) had nine kills apiece against USM.  Junior Alexa Cacacie (Manahawkin, N.J.) knocked down seven kills.  Junior Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) had 29 assists.  Junior Maria Perez (San Juan, P.R.) had 12 digs to lead all players, and junior Maggie MacMahon (Boise, Idaho) 11 digs to go along with six kills.

            Southern Maine is back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Husson University.
