            GORHAM, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to six on Saturday with a pair of dominating 3-0 wins over visiting Castleton University and the University of Maine at Presque Isle in a tri-match at the Warren Hill Gymnasium.

            USM knocked off Castleton in the opening match 25-6, 25-7, 25-6, and returned later to knock off UMPI 25-10, 25-10, 25-16.  In the middle match, UMPI rallied from a first-set loss to defeat Castleton 3-1 (19-25, 25-9, 25-17, 25-11).  Southern Maine is now 9-4 overall and 2-0 in the Little East Conference.  Castleton falls to 0-8 overall and 0-2 in the LEC.  UMPI remains at .500 with the split checking in at 5-5 overall.

            In the opener, Southern Maine overpowered Castleton with its attack.  The Huskies had 38 kills on 69 attack for a .420 attack percentage.  Sophomore Kacey Foerster (Scarborough, Maine) led the way with 14 kills.  Junior Kylee Austin (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) added eight kills, and sophomore Jamie Jannarone (Windham, Maine) contributed five.

            Senior Nicole Schmitz (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham) orchestrated the offense passing out 21 assists and had six service aces.  Sophomore Rachel Chillé (Yarmouth, Maine) and junior Jenna Graves (Corinth, Texas/Lake Dallas) led the back line with nine and eight digs, respectively.

            Against UMPI, the Huskies used a balanced attack to dispatch with the Owls.  Junior Megan Gettings (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Eastern), rookie Alexis Dow (Miami, Fla.) and Jannarone had six kills apiece.  Foerster and Austin chipped in with five more.  Chillé had five service aces and five digs.

            In the middle match, UMPI junior Devine Hoskie (Shonto, Ariz.) posted a triple-double with 12 kills, 13 aces and 13 digs.  Sophomore Miranda Washinawatok (Shawano, Wis.) led all players with 17 kills, and junior Laura Aroz (Tucson, Ariz.) dished out 35 assists.

            For Castleton, sophomore Shannon Manchester (West Hartford, Conn.) had seven kills.  Senior Brianna Hake (St. George, Vt.) passed out 10 assists, and sophomore libero Meghan Zawatsky (Chelmsford, Mass.) contributed 13 digs.

            Southern Maine travels to Boston on Tuesday (6 p.m.) to face the University of Massachusetts Boston.  UMPI will play Unity and Green Mountain College tomorrow at Unity.  Castleton hosts Green Mountain in its next match on Wednesday (7 p.m.).
