Huskies Host Colby-Sawyer College at Hill Gymnasium (7 p.m.)
GORHAM, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine women's volleyball team will be hosting its annual community service fundraiser this Thursday (October 18) in conjunction with the match with Colby-Sawyer College.
"Each year we choose a match to raise money for a charity that resonates with us personally," commented fifth-year head coach Diane Newell. "This year, we have chosen to donate to a local organization, the Maine Veteran's Home, for their efforts to provide meaningful care and activities to local veterans, and that support them and their families. There will be raffle prizes and opportunities to donate to the Maine Veteran's Home at the game."
Sophomore outside hitter Kacey Foerster (Scarborough, Maine), who volunteers at the Scarborough Veteran's Home, went on to explain how the team selected the Maine Veteran's Home to be this year's recipient. "They're involved and caring and they want to give the best possible care to the residents. They're more than just a nursing home, they're family. They're involved in the families lives, too. Everyone there makes the families feel more at ease with the transition and living away from their loved ones.
"The donations will help provide more activities for the veterans to do throughout the day - as we are donating to their activity fund. The activities provide comfort, fun, and a sense of belonging to the veterans."
