UMass Boston Sweeps Southern Maine 3-0

BOSTON -- Rookie Alek Qose (Athens, Greece) and senior Sarah Doyle (Glendale, Calif.) combined for 26 kills as the University of Massachusetts Boston cruised past the University of Southern Maine, 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-14), in a Little East Conference women's volleyball match Wednesday evening at the Clark Athletic Center.

The win snapped the Beacons' two-match losing skid, and lifted their record to 6-16 overall and 3-2 in conference play.  The Huskies had their five-match winning streak stopped by the loss, and fall to 12-11 overall and 3-3 in LEC matches.

Qose was dominate at the net pounding home 15 kills on 21 attacks.  Doyle added 11 kills on 20 attacks.  The duo combined for a .537 attack percentage (26-4-41) as the Beacons had a team attack percentage of .388 (42-9-85).

Junior Carsen Komminsk (Worthington, Ohio) directed the Beacons' offense passing out 34 assists.  Junior Tyla Parker (Mahwah, N.J./Montclair Kimberley Academy) led the UMB back row with 10 digs.

Sophomore Kacey Foerster (Scarborough, Maine) led USM's attack with eight kills.  Seniors Megan Gettings (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Eastern) and Kylee Austin (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) contributed three kills apiece.

Sophomore setter/right side Sophie Lindsay (Pasadena, Calif.) dished out 10 assists, and junior libero Lauren Delissio (Hebron, Conn./RHAM) had a match-high 11 digs.

The Beacons got off to a quick start in the opening set and never looked back.  Qose had seven kills in the first set as the Beacons attacked at a .400 percentage.

In the middle set, the Huskies got off to a 7-2 lead, keyed by four consecutive service aces from Foerster.  After a timeout, the Beacons ran off seven straight points to take the lead.  USM was still within two (18-16) when the Beacons took four straight, and seven of the final eight points to go up 2-0.

Qose, Doyle and sophomore Marcelle Tiscareno (El Paso, Texas) combined for 17 kills in the final set as the Beacons.  Tiscareno, who had seven of the kills, was responsible for the final four points of the match with three kills and a solo block.

Southern Maine hits the road again on Saturday traveling to Regis College for a non-conference tri-match with Wentworth (2 p.m.) and host Regis (4 p.m.).  UMass Boston is off until Tuesday (7 p.m.) when it travels to Rhode Island College for an LEC match.
