BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Senior Heather Evans (York, Maine) earned a top 10 finish Saturday to lead the University of Southern Maine women's cross country team to a third-place finish among the eight teams competing at the Bowdoin College Invitational II.
Evans toured the 6,000-meter Bowdoin women's course in a time of 23 minutes, 58.9 seconds to finish in 10th place.
Sophomore Gina Pardi (Falmouth, Maine) and freshman Sydney Sirois (Greene, Maine/St. Dominic Academy) were the second and third Huskies to cross the finish line. Pardi had a top 20 finish landing in the 17th spot overall with her time of 24:34.7. Sirois finished 21st overall (19th in scoring) after crossing the line in 25:06.1.
Senior Lauren Beganny (Litchfield, Maine/Oak Hill) and sophomore Nicole Ponte (Dartmouth, Mass.) completed USM's top five finishing in 32nd and 33rd place respectively (27th and 28th for scoring). Beganny had a time of 25:53.0 while Ponte crossed the finish in 26:04.0.
Host Bowdoin won the team title edging out Division II St. Edward's University (Austin, Texas), 27-33. Southern Maine took third with 101 points.
Bowdoin senior Sarah Kelley won the individual title with her time of 22:42.0.
Southern Maine is off next weekend. The Huskies next meet will be the annual Maine State Championship meet on October 14th at Bowdoin College.
