Phillips, Sirois Pace Southern Maine at UMD Invitational
DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Senior Bryanna Phillips (Westbrook, Maine) and sophomore Sydney Sirois (Greene, Maine/St. Dominic) posted top 40 results to lead the University of Southern Maine women's cross country team to a 25th-place finish among the 45 teams competing Saturday at the annual University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Cross Country Invitational.
Phillips covered the 5,000-meter UMD campus course in a time of 19 minutes, 33.59 seconds to cross the finish line in 32nd place. Sirois placed 39th overall with her time of 19:35.46.
Senior Haley Bantz (East Waterboro, Maine/Massabesic) was the Huskies' third finisher placing 140th overall after crossing the line in 20:53.89.
Southern Maine's five runners combined for a score of 706 points. Brandeis University was first in the final team standings scoring 56 points. Trinity College was runner-up, edging out Merrimack College, 105-107. WPI was fourth with 127 points, and Wellesley College completed the top five at 225.
The Huskies will be off next weekend. They return to action on September 29 (1:30 p.m.) competing in the annual State of Maine Championship to be held at Bowdoin College.
