First-Year Runner Earns Honor for the Second Straight Week
GORHAM, Maine -- For the second straight week, the Little East Conference has selected University of Southern Maine senior Bryanna Phillips (Westbrook, Maine) as the women's cross country Rookie of the Week. The conference office made the announcement Monday afternoon.
Competing this past weekend at the annual University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Cross Country Invitational, Phillips, a first-year competitor, was the Huskies first finisher crossing the finish line in 32nd place overall with her time of 19 minutes, 33.59 seconds. Among competitors from Little East Conference teams, Phillips was the third finisher.
Southern Maine's five scoring runners combined for a score of 706 points to place 25th among the 45 teams scoring. Brandeis University was first in the final team standings scoring 56 points. Trinity College was runner-up, edging out Merrimack College, 105-107. WPI was fourth with 127 points, and Wellesley College completed the top five at 225.
The Huskies will be off this weekend. They return to action on September 29 (1:30 p.m.) competing in the annual State of Maine Championship to be held at Bowdoin College.
