Huskies Finish Sixth in Team Standings
SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Sophomore Sydney Sirois (Greene, Maine/St. Dominic) earned All-Little East Conference honors Saturday to pace the University of Southern Maine women's cross country team to a sixth-place finish at the annual LEC Championship meet hosted by Rhode Island College at Bryant College.
Competing in poor conditions due to the weather, Sirois earned All-LEC honors by finishing among the top 10 coming across the finish line in ninth place. Times for all runners were not available due to the weather causing issues with the timing system.
Senior Haley Bantz (East Waterboro, Maine/Massabesic) was the Huskies second finisher coming in in 14th place. Classmate Kelly Lynch (Harpswell, Maine/Mt. Ararat) was the third USM finisher placing 36th overall (34th in team scoring).
Sophomore Samantha Thompson (Westbrook, Maine) finished 43rd overall (37th in scoring), and rookie Emily Colby (Lunenburg, Vt./Lyndon Institute) was the fifth USM finisher crossing the finish line in 52nd place overall (41st in scoring).
Keene State College, led by individual winner Lauren Perkowski, took the team title for the 17th time in the last 18 years with 54 points. Defending champion Eastern Connecticut State University was runner-up with 62 points. Host Rhode Island College was third with 84. Southern Maine tallied 135 points.
Southern Maine is off next weekend as it makes final preparations for the annual NCAA New England Regional Championship on November 10.
