Valle Leads Southern Maine at UMass Dartmouth Invitational
DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Freshman Savannah Valle (Waterboro, Maine/Massabesic), making her collegiate debut, led the University of Southern Maine women's cross country team efforts at the 47th Annual UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday.
Valle, who just recently joined the team, was the first USM finisher coming across the finish line in 152nd place overall (141st in scoring) after covering the 5,000-meter UMD women's course in a time of 21 minutes, 41.12 seconds.
Classmate Heather Van Dolman (Orono, Maine) was the Huskies' second finisher placing 175th with her time of 22:05.87. Sophomore Emily Colby (Lunenburg, Vt./Lyndon Institute) finished 188th overall after crossing the line in 22:33.19.
Sophomore Izzy Sossei (Wells, Maine) and junior Anna Hill (Bangor, Maine) completed the Huskies top five. Sossei was 194th in a time of 22:52.36 while Hill placed 208th overall with her time of 23:25.93.
Holy Cross took the team title scoring 83 points. Runner-up Mount Holyoke College was right behind with 92 points. Rounding out the top five teams were WPI with 129, Trinity College with 165, and Saint Anselm College with 212. Southern Maine totaled 840 points to finish 29th among the 37 teams that posted team scores.
Suffolk University senior Emily Manfra was the individual winner with a time of 17:51.72.
